Maxwell R. Lafontant is a Las Vegas based composer of concert music. He has written music for soloists, chamber groups, orchestra, electronics, and the stage. His music has been performed across the country and across the world, from Iowa to Italy, Las Vegas to Abu Dhabi. He has been honored through a performance at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research.

More than a composer, however, Maxwell sees himself as a collaborator; he loves to work with other people, be they other composers, musicians, or someone outside of the music realm. He has written music in collaboration with other composers, as well as worked extremely closely with the musicians who have commissioned him. He has also worked with various theatre and dance productions, including writing incidental music for Mary Zimmerman's Secret in the Wings, as well as Amanda Hamp's dance production Invited to Tea. He was also the music director for the Luther College production's of Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and Eric Overmyer's On the Verge. 

Maxwell is a member of ASCAP and SCI. He received his MM at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas under Virko Baley. He received his BA at Luther College under Dr. Brooke Joyce.
